Meet the Africa Regional Centre Officer: Oswald Tuyizere
Oswald Tuyizere
My name is Oswald Tuyizere and I have lived with a physical disability since my childhood. I am a graduated Lawyer (LLB) and have a Master’s degree in International and Comparative Environment Law (LLM) from France. Before taking on the post of DRPI Africa Regional Officer, I served as the Continuing Legal Education Coordinator at Rwanda Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD). Prior to that post, I coordinated the Land Registration Activities in Nyanza District, Southern Province on behalf of the National Land Centre. In addition, I played a significant role in establishing the Fédération Nationale des Personnes en situation de Handicap (FENAPH) covering 30 districts in Rwanda and was elected to coordinate the FENAPH in the Kamonyi District. I contributed to the creation of national and local organizations of persons with disabilities focusing on raising awareness of human rights implementation for persons with disabilities. These organizations included: Peacemakers Rwanda and Rwanda Disability Development Agency, APROHA-Kamonyi, Hope Centre, and others.
Using my strong analytical, administrative and managerial skills, as well as my knowledge of many modern languages such as English, French, Swahili and Kinyarwanda languages, I am fully equipped to coordinate disability rights monitoring activities at the Africa regional level.
